1. Gaudi’s curvey creations in Parc Guell are a must – it’s a bizarre and brilliant garden space filled with some of his most daring and edge-defying architecture.

2. Sneak into the tucked-away Harlem Jazz Club  in the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) on the Carrer de Comtessa de Sobradiel. It’s tricky to find but you’ll be rewarded with rustic wine, mesmerising classical guitar, upbeat modern jazz and an authentic atmos.

3. La Rambla is a fabulously lively street to dine on in the evening, but the regal Placa Reial (which you can find just off La Rambla) with its palatial architecture and palm trees is a super spot to spend a balmy evening.

4. Opium Mar was an absolutely divine discovery on Barceloneta Beach. They serve up exquisite fresh seafood in a sleek interior, while the exterior is miles of sandy beach and sea. Not cheap but great for a special treat.

5. Spend a morning wandering around the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) in El Raval. It’s home to some stunning artworks dating back to the 20th century, including a chocolate sculpture from the 1960s!
